Tissue paper in orange, purple and green, pre-torn into roughly 3 cm pieces
A glue stick, one per child
A strip of gold or yellow glitter card, 2 cm x 10 cm, per child (for the hat band)
Self-adhesive star stickers in mixed colours, small pot to share
Scissors for adult use
Step by Step
An adult cuts a tall pointed triangle from the black card, roughly 20 cm high and 14 cm wide at the base. Then cut a flat oval brim, about 16 cm wide and 5 cm deep, from the remaining card. These two pieces form the hat.
The child rubs glue stick over the front of the triangle, working in sections. Press torn tissue pieces onto the glue, overlapping the edges so no black shows through. Mix colours freely. When the triangle is covered and the glue is dry, the tissue should be flat and papery, not bunched.
Glue the glitter-card strip horizontally across the base of the triangle to make the hat band. Press firmly along the full length.
Stick the triangle onto the oval brim, aligning the base of the cone with the top straight edge of the oval. A generous line of glue stick holds it securely.
Press star stickers over the tissue surface in a scattered pattern. Add a few to the brim for balance.
