Tissue Paper Halloween Wreath

You'll Need

  • 1 large paper plate, 26 cm diameter, per wreath
  • Tissue paper in orange, purple, yellow and black, roughly 30 sheets total
  • PVA glue or a hot glue gun (adult use only)
  • Black card, A4, one sheet for legs and hat
  • White card or paper, one small strip for sock stripes
  • a pencil and ruler
  • 30 cm of thin ribbon for hanging
  • Scissors

Step by Step

  • An adult cuts out the centre of the paper plate, leaving a ring about 6 cm wide. This is the wreath frame. Cut a length of ribbon and thread it through the top of the ring, knotting it to form a hanging loop.
  • Tear or cut the tissue paper into roughly 10 cm squares. The child scrunches each square into a loose ball and dips the base lightly in PVA glue, then presses it onto the paper-plate ring. Pack the balls tightly so the plate does not show through. Work in colour sections or mix randomly; both look good when the ring is full.
  • An adult cuts two leg shapes from black card, each about 12 cm long with a simple boot shape at the bottom. Cut four narrow strips of white card and glue them horizontally across the lower legs to make striped stockings.
  • An adult cuts a pointed triangle hat from black card (about 10 cm high) and a small oval brim. Glue the hat together, then glue or hot-glue it to the top of the wreath ring at a slight tilt.
  • Glue or hot-glue the legs to the bottom of the ring so they hang below the tissue paper, pointing downward and slightly outward.
