Stained Glass Bat Window Hanger

You'll Need

  • Black card, A4, 250 gsm, one sheet per bat
  • Orange, purple and red cellophane or tissue paper, a small piece of each
  • A craft knife and cutting mat (adult use only)
  • Clear tape or PVA glue
  • 30 cm of black thread for hanging
  • Pencil and scissors

Step by Step

  • Draw a bat shape on the black card filling most of the A4 sheet. Include a clear body in the centre, two large wings, and two small ear points at the top of the body. Divide each wing into three or four sections with curved lines.
  • An adult cuts out the bat outline, then uses a craft knife to cut away the interior wing sections, leaving the black lines between each section as ribs. The body and ears remain solid black.
  • Turn the bat over. Cut pieces of cellophane or tissue slightly larger than each opening and tape or glue them over the openings from behind, mixing colours across the two wings.
  • Punch a small hole at the top of the body between the ears. Thread the black thread through and knot it for hanging. Hold the bat up to the light to check all openings are covered before hanging.
