Sponge-Print Frankenstein Card

You'll Need

  • 1 sheet white card, A5, 160 gsm, per child
  • 1 kitchen sponge, cut into a 5 x 6 cm rectangle (adult step)
  • Green poster paint
  • Black marker pen
  • Small scraps of silver or grey card for bolts (one strip per child)
  • PVA glue

Step by Step

  • An adult cuts the kitchen sponge into a rectangle about 5 cm wide and 6 cm tall. This is the face stamp. Pour a thin, even layer of green paint into a flat lid or tray.
  • Press the flat face of the sponge firmly into the paint, coating the whole surface evenly. Press it onto the centre of the white card and lift straight up. The sponge texture leaves a slightly mottled green rectangle: this is the Frankenstein face. If the coverage is too patchy, press a second time slightly overlapping the first.
  • Leave the paint to dry for 15 minutes. While it dries, an adult cuts the silver card scrap into two small rectangles about 1 cm wide and 1.5 cm tall: these are the neck bolts.
  • Once dry, use the black marker to add two square eyes near the top of the rectangle, a small nose and a straight-line mouth with stitches crossing it (short lines perpendicular to the main mouth line). Add a flat-top hairline along the top edge of the green rectangle with a few horizontal strokes to suggest a flat-top haircut.
  • Glue the two silver bolt rectangles to the lower sides of the face, one on each side, as if they emerge from the neck. Dry for 5 minutes. Write a Halloween message below the face if desired.
