Rolled Paper Pumpkin

You'll Need

  • White card, A5, 200 gsm, one sheet per child (base)
  • Orange paper strips, 0.5 cm wide and 20 cm long, about 30 per child (pre-cut by adult)
  • Green paper strips, 0.5 cm wide and 10 cm long, 4 per child (stalk and vines)
  • PVA glue in a small pot
  • A pencil
  • Black marker, medium tip

Step by Step

  • An adult pre-cuts all the orange and green strips. Draw a pumpkin outline in black marker on the white card, roughly 12 cm wide and 10 cm tall, with a small stalk. The outline contains the coils, so make it bold enough to be visible.
  • To roll a coil, wrap one end of an orange strip tightly around the pencil tip, then continue rolling to the end of the strip. Slide off the pencil and let it relax slightly into a loose coil.
  • Dip the end of the coil into PVA glue and press it into the pumpkin outline on the card. Fill the entire pumpkin interior with loose coils, packed closely together. It takes about twenty to twenty-five coils to fill an A5 pumpkin shape.
  • Roll the green strips more loosely and curl the ends around the pencil for vine tendrils. Glue these around the stalk.
  • Once the interior is full and all pieces are glued, leave flat for five minutes to set.
