Pinecone Creatures

You'll Need

  • 1-2 pinecones per child, collected outdoors
  • Felt scraps in brown, orange or cream, at least 10 x 10 cm per child
  • 2 googly eyes per creature, at least 1 cm across
  • PVA glue or strong glue stick
  • Safety scissors

Step by Step

  • Cut ear or wing shapes from the felt, each at least four centimetres wide. Four-year-olds can cut these themselves with safety scissors; younger children may need an adult to cut them.
  • Glue the felt shapes onto the top of the pinecone and hold them for one minute until the glue grips the scales.
  • Glue two googly eyes onto the face end and leave flat for twenty minutes to set before playing.

Good to Know

Ages: 4+ for cutting, 3+ for gluing, adult assists with fiddly bits.
