Pinecone Bird Feeder

You'll Need

  • 1 large pinecone per child
  • 30 cm string or twine per cone
  • 2 tablespoons nut-free seed spread (sunflower seed butter or similar)
  • 4 tablespoons birdseed in a shallow tray

Step by Step

  • An adult ties the string tightly between the top scales of the pinecone with a double knot.
  • Spread a thick layer of nut-free seed spread over all the scales with a butter knife, working it into the gaps until the cone is fully coated.
  • Roll the cone in the shallow tray of birdseed, pressing gently to coat all sides. Hang outside from a branch immediately.
