Paper Straw Skeleton

You'll Need

  • Black card, A4, 250 gsm, one per child
  • White paper straws, about 12 per child (or more for a bigger skeleton)
  • White card, a small offcut (skull)
  • PVA glue
  • Black marker, fine tip
  • Scissors

Step by Step

  • Cut one straw in half for the spine. Place it vertically in the centre of the black card, about 4 cm from the top, and glue in place.
  • Cut two shorter pieces for the shoulders (each about 5 cm), crossing the spine horizontally near the top, and glue them perpendicular to the spine.
  • For the rib cage, cut six pieces, each 3 cm long, and glue three on each side of the spine below the shoulders, angled slightly downward.
  • Cut two long pieces for the arms and glue them outward from the shoulder pieces, bending them at a slight angle. Cut short pieces for the hands and angle them downward at the end of each arm.
  • For the legs, cut two long pieces and glue from the base of the spine downward. Add shorter shin pieces angled outward at the knee, and tiny foot pieces at the base.
  • Cut a small oval skull from white card, about 4 cm tall. Draw hollow eyes, a triangular nose hole and a toothy grin with the black marker. Glue at the top of the spine.
