Paper Roll Frankenstein

You'll Need

  • Cardboard toilet rolls, one per child
  • Green acrylic or poster paint, 20 ml per child
  • A flat brush, 2 cm wide
  • Black card, a small strip per child (hair)
  • 2 silver or gold paper brad fasteners per child (bolts)
  • Black and red markers, fine tip
  • White paper, a small offcut (eyes)
  • PVA glue or glue stick

Step by Step

  • Paint the outside of the toilet roll green. Let it dry upright for twenty minutes until fully matte.
  • Cut a strip of black card the same width as the roll, about 2 cm deep, with a slightly uneven top edge for a flat-top hair silhouette. Glue it around the top of the roll.
  • An adult presses two brad fasteners through the roll on opposite sides, about a third of the way down, to represent the neck bolts. Splay the backs inside to hold them firm.
  • Cut two small circles from white paper, about 1.5 cm diameter. Draw a black pupil on each and glue them to the front of the roll below the hair strip.
  • Draw a flat straight-line mouth with the black marker: a single horizontal line with three small vertical stitches above it gives the classic monster look. Add two small red dots for nostrils.
