Paper Plate Spider

You'll Need

  • White paper plates, 22 cm, one per spider
  • Black acrylic paint, 20 ml per spider
  • A flat foam brush
  • Black card or thick black paper, A5 sheet per spider (legs)
  • 2 white self-adhesive circle stickers, 2 cm diameter (eyes)
  • Black marker, fine tip
  • 50 cm of black thread per spider for hanging
  • PVA glue

Step by Step

  • Paint the front of the paper plate entirely black. Let it dry flat for twenty minutes.
  • Cut eight strips of black card, each 2 cm x 15 cm. Accordion-fold each strip to give it a jointed, leg-like appearance.
  • Glue four legs to each side of the underside of the plate, pointing outward and slightly downward. Allow the glue to set for five minutes before turning the spider over.
  • Stick the two white circle stickers to the front of the plate, side by side, near the top. Draw a black dot pupil on each with the marker.
  • An adult ties the black thread to a small loop of tape on the back of the plate at the top, or makes a small hole with a pencil and threads it through for hanging.
