Marshmallow Ghost Hot Chocolate

Prep Time 15 minutes
Total Time 25 minutes
Makes 12 cups

Ingredients

  • 12 heaped tbsp about 240 g / 8.5 oz good-quality hot chocolate powder
  • 1.8 litres 7.5 cups just-boiled whole milk or water (or a 50/50 mix)
  • 36 large white marshmallows
  • Black edible ink pen fine tip
  • 36 mini chocolate chips for ghost eyes, optional
  • Caramel sauce or chocolate syrup for swirling in (optional)
  • 12 heat-safe mugs or disposable hot cups
  • Large insulated carafe or slow cooker on the lowest setting

Instructions

  • Draw a ghost face on each marshmallow using the fine-tip black edible ink pen: two oval eyes and a small open-circle mouth. Alternatively, press two mini chocolate chips into each marshmallow for the eyes.
  • Combine the hot chocolate powder with the just-boiled milk (or water) in a large insulated carafe, stirring vigorously until the powder dissolves completely.
  • Pour the hot chocolate into each mug, filling about three-quarters full.
  • Float three ghost marshmallows on top of each cup, face-side up.
  • Drizzle a swirl of caramel sauce or chocolate syrup over the marshmallows if using.
  • Serve immediately, or keep the carafe on the lowest setting of a slow cooker so guests can pour at their own pace throughout the party.
