Ghost Thumb-Print Card

You'll Need

  • White stamp ink pad, or white acrylic paint on a damp sponge
  • Blank card blanks or thick white card cut to 10 x 14 cm, 300 gsm
  • Black fine-tip permanent marker
  • Orange or pink fine-tip marker for extras (optional)

Step by Step

  • Press a thumb firmly onto the white stamp pad or the paint-loaded sponge, coating it evenly. Too much paint will blur the print; a light, even coat gives the cleanest ghost shape.
  • Press the coated thumb firmly onto the centre of the card blank and lift straight up without rocking. The thumbprint should be a clear oval. Leave it to dry for two minutes. White ink takes a little longer than coloured inks to become fully opaque; hold it to the light to check before drawing on it.
  • Once dry, use the black marker to add two small dot eyes near the top of the print and a small mouth if you like. Draw a wavy hem line below the thumbprint, extending slightly wider than the print on each side, to give the ghost its floating skirt shape.
  • Write a name, a message or a number on the card. Add tiny stars or dots around the ghost with the orange or pink marker if you want to fill the card a little more. Finished cards look lovely tied to a treat bag with a loop of twine.
