Ghost Tealight Holder

You'll Need

  • Small glass jars, 200 ml capacity, washed and dried, one per holder
  • White tissue paper, one sheet per jar
  • Mod Podge or diluted PVA glue
  • Black card, small piece, 10 x 10 cm per jar
  • Scissors (adult use for the black card cutting)
  • Battery tea light, one per jar

Step by Step

  • Tear or cut the tissue paper into pieces roughly 10 x 10 cm. Brush a thin layer of Mod Podge over the outside of the jar and press tissue paper pieces onto it, overlapping at the edges and smoothing out large wrinkles with your finger. Cover the whole outer surface of the jar except the base.
  • Brush a final coat of Mod Podge over the tissue paper layer to seal it. This also gives the paper a slight sheen that diffuses the light nicely. Allow to dry for 10 minutes.
  • An adult cuts a small ghost face silhouette from the black card: two oval eyes and a small mouth, cut as holes, so when you hold it to the light the face shines through. Or simply cut a ghost outline from black card and glue it to the front of the jar as a flat silhouette. Both approaches work.
  • Stick the black card ghost face to the front of the jar with a dab of craft glue. Place a battery tea light inside and switch it on. The light glows through the tissue paper and illuminates the face.
