30 cm of narrow satin ribbon, dusty pink, per doll
2 small black buttons, 8-10 mm, per doll
Black embroidery floss, short length, for the mouth
Sewing needle (adult use)
Step by Step
Stuff the sock firmly with polyester filling through the open cuff end until the foot and lower leg sections are round and plump. The ghost's head is the rounded toe area: make sure it is well stuffed and holds a clear sphere shape.
Pinch the sock about one-third of the way down from the toe to define the neck. Wrap the ribbon around the neck several times and tie it in a neat bow. The ribbon should sit snugly but not cut into the fabric.
An adult threads the needle with a double length of strong thread and sews one button through the sock fabric in the upper chest of the ghost (i.e. the section between the neck ribbon and the cuff), about 1.5 cm below the neck ribbon and 2 cm apart, to form the eyes. Pull the thread firmly through both buttons to create a slight indent that defines the eye sockets. Knot securely on the inside.
An adult uses two strands of black embroidery floss to stitch a small curved or straight mouth about 1 cm below the eyes. Three or four stitches are enough.
Tuck in any excess sock fabric at the open cuff end to neaten the hem of the ghost. The doll is finished and self-standing on a flat surface.
