Ghost Ribbon Wand

You'll Need

  • 1 wooden dowel, 30 cm long, 6 mm diameter, per wand
  • 4-5 ribbons per wand, 80 cm each: white, pale pink, cream, soft mauve
  • Washi tape in a ghost or star print, or a neutral pattern, for the handle
  • 1 small eyelet screw or a staple gun (adult use) to fix ribbons at the top
  • Hot glue gun (adult use) as an alternative fixing

Step by Step

  • Wrap the lower two-thirds of the dowel handle in washi tape, overlapping each strip slightly. This gives children a good grip and personalises each wand.
  • An adult attaches the ribbons to the top of the dowel. The easiest method: gather all ribbons together, fold them in half to find the midpoint, and wrap a short piece of washi tape around the bundle and the dowel top to hold them. Then an adult adds a dot of hot glue over the tape to secure everything permanently. If you prefer, screw a small eyelet into the very top of the dowel and loop the ribbons through it before tying.
  • Spread the ribbons out evenly around the top of the dowel so they fall in a fan shape. Trim any ribbons that are visibly shorter than the others with scissors. An adult does this trim.
  • Hold the wand by the handle and give it a shake: the ribbons should stream freely and not tangle. If two ribbons stick together, separate and re-fan. The wand is ready to use.
