Ghost Paper Plate

You'll Need

  • White paper plates, 23 cm diameter, one per ghost
  • Black acrylic or poster paint
  • Medium round paintbrush, size 8
  • Optional: pink acrylic paint for cheeks, iridescent glitter glue for a sparkle border
  • A length of string or ribbon, 30 cm, for hanging (optional)

Step by Step

  • If hanging the plate, use a hole punch or a pencil to poke a small hole in the top of the plate rim before painting. Thread the string through and tie it off so it is ready to hang when the paint is dry.
  • Use the size-8 brush and black paint to paint two large oval eyes in the upper centre of the plate, and a round open mouth below. Keep the features bold enough to read from a distance. Thin, neat lines get lost on a textured plate surface.
  • Leave to dry for 20 minutes. If adding pink cheeks, dip a fingertip in very diluted pink paint and dab it gently on each side of the mouth. If adding glitter glue, run a line of it along the pleated outer rim once the black paint is fully dry.
  • Hang or prop the finished ghost wherever it is needed. Groups of three at different heights look much more composed than a single plate alone.
