Ghost Felt Pouch

You'll Need

  • Cream or white felt, 30 x 20 cm per pouch (enough for front and back)
  • Pink or dusty rose embroidery floss, one skein
  • Embroidery needle
  • Small piece of black felt, 5 x 5 cm per pouch, for the eyes
  • Scissors with sharp points (adult use)
  • A ghost template drawn on paper: approx. 12 cm tall, 8 cm wide at the widest, wavy hem

Step by Step

  • Trace the ghost template twice onto the felt and cut out both pieces. An adult does all the cutting. The two pieces should be identical when layered on top of each other.
  • From the black felt, cut two small ovals about 1 x 1.5 cm for eyes. An adult cuts these. Position them on the front felt piece in the upper third, centred and about 2 cm apart. Stitch each eye in place with three or four straight stitches through the eye and the front felt layer only.
  • Layer the front piece (eyes facing outward) over the back piece. Thread the embroidery needle with two strands of pink floss, knotted at one end. Starting at one side of the ghost's neck opening, work a simple running stitch or blanket stitch all around the edge of the ghost, 5 mm from the edge, stopping when you return to the neck opening on the other side. The top of the head and the open neck area form the opening of the pouch.
  • Knot the floss securely on the back at the end. Turn the pouch over to check the stitching is even. Any gaps can be filled with a few extra stitches. The pouch is complete: fill from the top opening.
