Ghost Egg Carton Figure

You'll Need

  • 1 cardboard egg carton per 12 ghosts
  • Scissors (adult use)
  • White acrylic craft paint
  • Small flat paintbrush, size 6
  • Black acrylic paint or fine permanent marker
  • Pink acrylic paint (optional, for cheeks)

Step by Step

  • An adult cuts the egg carton into individual cups, trimming the base of each cup so it sits flat and the flared sides are roughly even. The dome of the cup is the ghost's head; the flared sides are its hem.
  • Paint each cup inside and out with white acrylic, using the small brush. The cardboard absorbs the first coat fast. Two coats are needed for a good solid white, with 15 minutes drying time between coats.
  • Once fully dry, paint or draw a ghost face on the dome of each cup: two small oval eyes and a round or surprised mouth. If you want rosy cheeks, add a tiny dab of very diluted pink acrylic on each side of the mouth and blend it quickly with a finger.
  • Stand the finished figures cut-side down on a flat surface. They are stable on their own. Arrange them in a cluster or a line, with the tallest at the back if your collection has variety.
