Folded Paper Bat Mobile

You'll Need

  • Black card, A5, 160 gsm, one sheet per bat
  • Scissors
  • A natural twig or 30 cm of black wooden dowel, 6 mm diameter, one per mobile
  • Black thread, about 2 m per mobile
  • a hole punch

Step by Step

  • Cut each A5 sheet into a rectangle, 15 cm x 10 cm. Fold it in half lengthways so you have a long thin rectangle, 15 cm x 5 cm, with the fold at the bottom.
  • Fold the left end of the rectangle up at a slight angle (about 30 degrees from the fold edge) to make one wing. Fold the right end up at the same angle in the opposite direction for the other wing. The shape should look like a flattened W from the front.
  • At the top centre, make a small scissor cut about 1 cm deep and curve each resulting flap outward to form ear shapes.
  • Punch a small hole through both layers at the centre top. Thread a 20-30 cm length of black thread through and knot it.
  • An adult ties the threads to the twig or dowel at different heights, spacing the bats along the length. Tie a loop at each end of the twig for hanging.

Good to Know

Ages 7 and up, adult to tie the thread to the twig.
