Thin corrugated card or cereal-box card, one A4 sheet per child
White acrylic paint, 30 ml per child
A flat foam brush, 2 cm wide, one per child
2 large googly eyes, 20 mm, per child
Self-adhesive foam gems and star stickers, a small pot to share
PVA glue or a glue stick for attaching googly eyes
Black marker, fine tip, one to share
30 cm of thin ribbon per child for hanging (optional)
A craft knife and cutting mat (adult use only, for pre-cutting shapes)
Step by Step
An adult cuts a simple ghost outline from each piece of card before the session: a rounded head, two small raised arms at the sides, and a wavy bottom edge. The shape should be roughly 15 cm tall. A craft knife cuts corrugated card more cleanly than scissors.
Brush white acrylic paint over the front of each ghost in smooth strokes. One good coat is enough if the card is pale; two thin coats work better on dark packaging. Set aside to dry for twenty minutes, paint side up.
Once dry, the child glues the googly eyes onto the face area using a small dot of PVA. Press firmly and hold for thirty seconds.
An adult or older child draws a simple mouth with the black marker: two rectangular teeth and a curved smile is the easiest route, and it reads clearly from across the room.
Peel-and-stick the foam gems and star stickers over the body in any pattern. Press each one flat so the edges do not lift.
If hanging, pierce a small hole at the top of the head with a pencil point and thread the ribbon through, knotting it on the back.
