1 strip black paper or card, 3 cm wide and 30 cm long, per bat
1 circle black card, 6 cm diameter, per bat (body)
2 googly eyes, 10 mm
PVA glue or a stapler (adult use)
Black thread or thin string for hanging
Pencil
Step by Step
Take the 30 cm strip of black paper and fold it accordion-style: fold up 2 cm, then down 2 cm, then up 2 cm, continuing to the end of the strip. You should end up with a neat pleated stack about 2 cm wide. Press each fold firmly with a fingernail to keep it crisp.
Pinch the accordion stack at its centre point so the two halves fan out on either side like wings. Hold it pinched while you wrap a piece of thread tightly around the centre twice and knot it firmly. Alternatively, an adult can staple through the centre. Once released, the wings should stay spread in a fan shape.
Glue or staple the body circle to the centre of the accordion fold, covering the thread or staple. Press firmly and hold for 30 seconds.
Glue two googly eyes onto the body circle. Add a small triangle of card for ears above the body if desired. Tie a length of black thread to the centre knot for hanging, or fold the wings flat slightly for a perched-bat look on a surface.
