A pencil and compass (or round objects to trace: a cup, a plate)
A craft knife and cutting mat (adult use only for inner cuts) or small scissors
A ruler
30 cm of white thread for hanging (optional)
Step by Step
An adult draws a circle about 18 cm diameter on the card, then three more concentric circles inside it at 4 cm, 8 cm and 12 cm from the edge, and a dot at the very centre. Then draw six straight lines through the centre to divide the card into twelve equal sections (like a clock face with lines at every hour).
An adult cuts along the spoke lines with a craft knife from the outer circle edge to the centre dot, stopping precisely at each concentric circle as you go. This creates separate arc segments between the circles.
The child bends alternating arc segments forward and backward: the first arc between circles 1 and 2 bends forward, the next backward, the next forward, and so on. When all arcs in all rings are bent, the web has a rippling 3D surface.
If hanging, punch a tiny hole at the top and thread through the white thread, knotting at the back.
