Punch holes evenly around the plate rim, spacing them about 2 cm apart. Aim for an even number, around 16 to 20 holes, which makes the crossing pattern more symmetrical. Thread the end of the yarn through any hole and knot it so it does not pull through.
Weave the yarn across the plate from hole to hole, pulling each length taut before pushing through the next hole. Aim to cross the centre of the plate on most passes: the web takes shape when threads intersect near the middle. Keep going until the plate feels well-covered and the pattern has a genuine web feel.
Knot the yarn at the last hole and trim any loose end. Dab craft glue at the centre of the web and press the plastic spider firmly onto it. Hold for 30 seconds. Let the glue set for five minutes before hanging. If the spider is on the light side, a small piece of double-sided tape works just as well as glue here.
