Juice the limes into a 2-quart pitcher until you have a full cup, picking out any seeds.
Add the orange juice and agave syrup to the pitcher and stir for a full minute, until the agave disappears into the liquid and no longer pools at the bottom.
Cover the pitcher and chill for 30 minutes so the flavors settle together.
Just before serving, run a lime wedge around the rim of each glass and dip the rim into a shallow plate of coarse salt.
Fill each salted glass with ice.
Stir the chilled lime mixture once more, then top the pitcher with the sparkling water or soda and stir gently just twice, enough to combine without flattening the bubbles.
Pour immediately over the ice-filled glasses and hang a lime wheel on each rim.
Good to Know
The lime and agave base keeps for two days covered in the fridge; add the fizz only after the first guest asks for a drink.
