Squeeze a pea-sized dot of PVA glue onto one end of the craft stick. Centre the cotton pad on top, flat side down, and press gently. Hold for 30 seconds. Prop the stick upright in a cup to dry for five minutes.
Once the cotton pad is firmly attached, the child uses the black marker to draw two small oval eyes and a round open mouth onto the centre of the pad. Press lightly: the marker tip will bleed if pressed hard into the fibres, giving the eyes a blurry edge. Small and light is better here.
Let the marker dry for two minutes before waving the puppet around. The ghost is finished when the eyes are dry and the pad does not wobble on the stick.
