Cook Time 10 minutes
Total Time 15 minutes
Makes 4 servings

Ingredients

  • 4 cups water
  • 4 chai tea bags or 2 tablespoons loose chai tea blend
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cardamom
  • 4 lemon wheels for garnish
  • 4 cinnamon sticks for garnish

Instructions

  • Bring the 4 cups of water to a boil in a small saucepan (2-quart).
  • Remove from heat and add the chai tea bags, steeping for 5 minutes until the water turns deep amber and smells strongly of spice.
  • Remove the tea bags and stir in the honey and ground cardamom until the honey fully dissolves.
  • Stir in the fresh lemon juice.
  • Taste and add more honey if you want it sweeter, one teaspoon at a time.
  • Divide among 4 heatproof mugs.
  • Float a lemon wheel on top of each mug and tuck a cinnamon stick in beside it.
  • Serve hot, within 10 minutes of steeping, while it still sends up steam.

Good to Know

Brew a double batch and keep it in a thermos for up to three hours, it stays hot and the honey will not separate.
