The child wraps a strip of gauze around the tube starting at the bottom, overlapping each round slightly as they go up. There is no right way to do this: gaps, overlaps and trailing ends all add to the mummy effect. Continue with more strips until most of the tube is covered but two small gaps near the top remain for the eyes.
Dab glue on the loose ends and press them against the tube. Hold each one for a count of ten. If a strip unravels, add another dab of glue; it will behave itself.
Dab a small spot of PVA glue into one of the gaps near the top and press an eye in. Repeat for the second eye. Let dry for five minutes before standing upright. The mummy is ready when the eyes hold without sliding.
