2750 ml bottles dry red wine, such as rioja or tempranillo
1cupbrandy
1/2cuporange liqueur
1/2cupgranulated sugar
2orangessliced
2applescored and diced
1cupfresh or frozen mixed berries
2cupschilled club soda
Instructions
In a large pitcher, combine the red wine, brandy, orange liqueur, and sugar; stir until the sugar fully dissolves.
Add the sliced oranges, diced apples, and berries.
Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or overnight, so the fruit softens and the wine mellows (taste at the 4 hour mark; it should taste fruity, not sharp or boozy).
Just before serving, stir in the chilled club soda for a light fizz.
Pour over ice into wine glasses, spooning a bit of the soaked fruit into each one.
Good to Know
Double the fruit and sugar and halve the soda if the party runs long; the sangria only improves sitting another few hours in the fridge.
