Air Fryer Mozzarella Sticks

Prep Time 50 minutes
Cook Time 8 minutes
Total Time 58 minutes
Makes 12 mozzarella sticks

Ingredients

  • 12 mozzarella string cheese sticks frozen
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs beaten
  • 1 1/2 cups Italian-seasoned breadcrumbs
  • Cooking spray

Instructions

  • Line a tray with parchment paper and set out three shallow bowls: one with flour, one with the beaten eggs, one with the breadcrumbs.
  • Roll each frozen cheese stick in the flour first, tapping off the excess.
  • Dip the floured stick into the egg, letting the excess drip off.
  • Roll it through the breadcrumbs, pressing gently so they stick all over.
  • Repeat the egg and breadcrumb layers a second time on each stick for a thicker, crack-resistant coating.
  • Freeze the coated sticks on the tray for at least 30 minutes, until firm (this keeps the cheese from leaking out).
  • Heat the air fryer to 390°F and lightly spray the basket.
  • Arrange the sticks in a single layer with space between them and spray the tops lightly.
  • Air fry for 6 to 8 minutes, flipping halfway, until the coating is deep golden and the cheese just starts to peek through at the ends.
  • Let rest for 2 minutes before serving (the cheese is lava-hot straight out).

Good to Know

Freeze a double batch; cook straight from frozen whenever a craving, or a kickoff, shows up without warning.
