72 Funny Would You Rather Questions That Get a Real Laugh

These funny would you rather questions are built for one thing: the argument, not the answer. Six rounds, 72 pairs, every option balanced just enough that the room will split and someone will slam the table. No deep feelings required, just a willingness to defend truly absurd positions.

How to Play

Read a pair aloud, give everyone five seconds to commit to an answer, then count hands. The fun is in the debate: ask two or three players to argue their side before moving on. Play through a whole round of 12 or dip into any round at random. No scorekeeping, no winners, no prep beyond printing the cards or pulling up this page.

Round One: Absurd Everyday

Start here: the scenarios are ordinary life pushed exactly one degree too far, which is why everyone has a strong opinion immediately.

  1. Would you rather sneeze every time you hear a compliment, or hiccup every time you say someone’s name?
  2. Would you rather have a printer for a mouth that prints whatever you are thinking, or Wi-Fi as a body part that only works in inconvenient places?
  3. Would you rather wake up every morning with a different hairstyle chosen randomly, or wake up wearing a different stranger’s outfit every day?
  4. Would you rather only be able to send texts in ALL CAPS forever, or only be able to speak in question form for the rest of your life?
  5. Would you rather have your alarm clock replaced permanently with a rooster, or have elevator music follow you into every silent room?
  6. Would you rather find a spider in every shoe before you put it on, or find a single hair in every meal you eat?
  7. Would you rather have your grocery bags split open at the bottom every single time, or always lose exactly one sock from every load of laundry?
  8. Would you rather have autocorrect secretly edit everything you type into old-fashioned pirate speak, or have autocorrect change every message you send into a formal Victorian letter?
  9. Would you rather your phone battery die at 30 percent every day with no warning, or your phone always autocall your boss when you sit down on the sofa?
  10. Would you rather narrate everything you do aloud like a nature documentary, or have a laugh track play after every sentence you speak?
  11. Would you rather have a dog follow you silently everywhere you go in public, or have a live string quartet trailing behind you on your commute?
  12. Would you rather get a paper cut every time you open a book, or stub your toe every time you walk through a doorway?

Round Two: Gross but Harmless

Nothing dangerous, nothing truly upsetting, just the specific kind of low-grade disgust that makes grown adults shriek and then argue about it for four minutes.

  1. Would you rather have to lick a public handrail once a day, or smell a stranger’s gym shoes for one full minute every morning?
  2. Would you rather drink a glass of lukewarm soup through someone else’s used straw, or eat a spoonful of expired mayonnaise once a week?
  3. Would you rather have permanently sweaty palms that drip when you shake hands, or have permanently bad breath that only other people can smell but you cannot?
  4. Would you rather find a single mystery hair in your takeout once a week, or always see a fly land on your food before you eat it?
  5. Would you rather have to wear the same pair of socks for a full week with no washing, or sleep in the same pillowcase for a month without changing it?
  6. Would you rather eat a bug-shaped gummy that tastes exactly like a real bug, or eat a real bug that somehow tastes exactly like a gummy?
  7. Would you rather have a belch escape every time you laugh, or have a tiny but audible toot happen every time you stand up from a chair?
  8. Would you rather accidentally spray spit on someone every time you say the letter S, or accidentally mispronounce your own name every time you introduce yourself?
  9. Would you rather have your nose run visibly in every meeting you attend, or have your eye twitch noticeably every time you tell a lie?
  10. Would you rather use a public restroom with no toilet paper every day, or always have to dry your hands on your own shirt because dispensers are always empty?
  11. Would you rather eat cereal with orange juice instead of milk for a year, or eat toast spread with cold tomato ketchup as your only breakfast option forever?
  12. Would you rather have your sneezes always be dramatically wet, or have your yawns always produce a sound like a foghorn?

Round Three: Embarrassing in Public

The room splits hardest here because everyone has a different tolerance for public humiliation, and comparing those tolerances is its own entertainment.

  1. Would you rather trip on flat ground and dramatically fall in front of a first date, or accidentally call your date by your ex’s name in front of their friends?
  2. Would you rather wave back enthusiastically at a stranger who was not waving at you, or laugh loudly at a joke you completely misheard and realise it was not funny at all?
  3. Would you rather walk out of a restaurant with a long piece of toilet paper trailing from your waistband, or walk into a job interview with your shirt on inside out?
  4. Would you rather loudly argue the wrong answer on a pub quiz and refuse to back down, or confidently give directions to a tourist and send them entirely the wrong way?
  5. Would you rather have your card declined in front of a long queue, or drop your entire bag and watch everything scatter across a crowded pavement?
  6. Would you rather burst into spontaneous tears at a work presentation for no reason, or accidentally send a very honest voice note about a colleague to the colleague themselves?
  7. Would you rather fall asleep and snore on a packed train, or talk clearly in your sleep and say something embarrassing at a sleepover?
  8. Would you rather mispronounce a word in a serious meeting and double down on the wrong version, or correct someone else’s pronunciation only to discover you are the one who is wrong?
  9. Would you rather have your phone blast music at full volume in a silent library, or have your alarm go off in a cinema during the quietest scene?
  10. Would you rather loudly greet someone by the wrong name and refuse to acknowledge the mistake, or wave at someone across a car park for 30 seconds before realising they cannot see you?
  11. Would you rather accidentally like a photo from three years ago on someone’s profile while deep in a scroll, or send a text meant for your best friend to your entire family group chat?
  12. Would you rather have a seagull steal your lunch in front of a crowded beach, or spill an entire cold drink onto yourself at the start of a long outdoor event?

Round Four: Ridiculous Superpowers

The twist is that every power here comes with a catch that makes it nearly useless, which is exactly what forces a real debate about which useless power is somehow still worth having.

  1. Would you rather be able to fly, but only at walking pace and three inches off the ground, or be able to turn invisible but only when no one is looking at you anyway?
  2. Would you rather be able to read minds but only hear people thinking about grocery lists, or be able to see the future but only one second ahead of everything?
  3. Would you rather be able to speak every language on earth but only in a very bored monotone, or be able to run at superhuman speed but only in a straight line with no turns?
  4. Would you rather have super strength but only strong enough to open any jar on the first try, or have perfect memory but only for song lyrics you do not like?
  5. Would you rather be able to teleport but always arrive facing the wrong direction, or be able to time travel but only to points three minutes in the past?
  6. Would you rather have the power to talk to animals but they all refuse to discuss anything interesting, or have the power to control the weather but only within a two-metre radius of yourself?
  7. Would you rather be able to pause time but only while you are sneezing, or be able to rewind any conversation by exactly one sentence?
  8. Would you rather be able to breathe underwater but only in swimming pools, or be able to climb any wall but only walls shorter than two metres?
  9. Would you rather have X-ray vision that only works on furniture, or have super hearing that only picks up sounds from televisions left on in other rooms?
  10. Would you rather be able to heal any injury instantly but only on strangers, or have the ability to summon any object but only objects that are already within arm’s reach?
  11. Would you rather be able to shrink to the size of a grape on command but have no way to grow back until someone notices you, or be able to grow to twice your height but only in rooms with very low ceilings?
  12. Would you rather have the power to make anyone fall asleep instantly but only by reading them tax documents aloud, or have the power to make anyone tell the truth but only about their opinions on sandwiches?

Round Five: Impossible Jobs

Each pair is a career you would genuinely be stuck in forever, which makes the room weigh things like dignity, boredom and sheer chaos against each other beautifully.

  1. Would you rather professionally taste-test only flavours of crisps that did not sell well enough to continue, or professionally name every new shade of paint at a hardware store for a living?
  2. Would you rather be the person who types closed captions live for a show entirely in technical jargon, or be the person who operates the laugh track for a comedy show with no budget and no funny jokes?
  3. Would you rather be a professional bridesmaid who must attend and cry at twelve strangers’ weddings a year, or be a professional mourner at funerals for people you have never met?
  4. Would you rather test mattresses for comfort by napping on them in a public showroom for eight hours a day, or test office chairs by sitting on them in an empty warehouse and submitting hourly reports?
  5. Would you rather be the person who proofreads every terms and conditions document before it goes live, or be the person who answers phone calls from people who have dialled the wrong number all day?
  6. Would you rather professionally untangle Christmas lights for strangers each November, or professionally remove stickers cleanly from new products before they go on display?
  7. Would you rather be the person who resets bowling pins by hand at a lane with no machine, or be the person who manually sorts single socks at a commercial laundry?
  8. Would you rather be a professional queue-holder who stands in line for strangers all day, or be a professional meeting-attendee who sits silently in other people’s video calls to make the numbers look better?
  9. Would you rather be the person who cleans the inside of claw machines between prizes, or be the person who refills every salt and pepper shaker in a large restaurant chain across the city?
  10. Would you rather teach the same basic spreadsheet skill to one new person every hour for eight hours a day, or explain how to connect to Wi-Fi on a phone to one new person every 20 minutes forever?
  11. Would you rather be the person who writes the warning labels on products that already seem very obviously dangerous, or be the person who decides which emoji a major tech company adds next?
  12. Would you rather be a professional hat rack who stands still wearing up to twelve hats at a trade show, or be a professional dramatic gasp performer who auditions to react to announcements at live events?

Round Six: The Funniest Round

Save this for last: the pairs here are so specifically unhinged that the first reaction in the room is always a laugh before anyone even picks a side.

  1. Would you rather have a biography written about your life narrated entirely by a very disappointed ex, or have a documentary made about your daily routine directed by someone who finds it tragically boring?
  2. Would you rather have your internal monologue accidentally broadcast over a shopping centre PA system for one hour, or have every thought you have while on public transport appear on a screen above your head?
  3. Would you rather live inside a game show where every minor life decision triggers confetti and a buzzer, or live in a soap opera where dramatic background music plays during every conversation you have?
  4. Would you rather have a tiny personal publicist who announces your entry into every room you walk into, or have a tiny personal critic who quietly but audibly rates everything you eat in front of other people?
  5. Would you rather swap voices with your closest friend for one week with no explanation allowed, or swap your laugh with a stranger’s for one year and have no idea what yours sounds like anymore?
  6. Would you rather wake up one morning to find your entire life has been a reality TV show watched by millions, or wake up to find your life has been a children’s picture book read aloud in schools?
  7. Would you rather have a theme tune that plays every time you enter a room but you cannot hear it and only everyone else can, or have subtitles appear beneath you at all times that describe your emotions with clinical accuracy?
  8. Would you rather be legally required to high-five every person you make eye contact with, or be legally required to bow deeply every time someone says your name?
  9. Would you rather have a crow that follows you everywhere and loudly disapproves of your choices, or have a golden retriever that enthusiastically agrees with everything you say and embarrasses you by being too supportive?
  10. Would you rather exist in a world where everyone communicates exclusively through miming, or in a world where everyone must sing any sentence that is longer than five words?
  11. Would you rather have the plot of your most chaotic weekend turned into a stage musical performed by children, or have your most embarrassing search history read aloud by a serious news anchor on live television?
  12. Would you rather spend a year as a background extra in a film who keeps accidentally ending up in the foreground, or spend a year as the person who tests whether automatic doors open quickly enough by walking at them without slowing down?

How to Keep It Moving and When to Stop

The game stalls in exactly one situation: when the reader takes too long to commit. Set a five-second rule from the moment the question lands and enforce it without mercy. If two players tie on time, flip a coin to decide who argues first.

Know when a round has peaked. Six pairs into a round, if the energy is still climbing, keep going. If three answers in a row produce immediate unanimous agreement with no debate, skip ahead to the next round. The whole point is the split, so chase the split.

End on a high. The best stopping point is right after a question that causes the loudest, most chaotic disagreement. Stop there, while the room is still buzzing. Ending on a dull consensus question is the only real way to lose at this game.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many players do you need for funny would you rather questions?

Three is the minimum where debate actually happens. The sweet spot is four to ten players. Beyond twelve, split into two groups running the same round simultaneously and compare the most entertaining answers at the end.

Do you need to keep score?

No. Scorekeeping kills the pacing. The game runs on momentum, not points. If your group needs a winner, give one point to whoever makes the funniest argument for their answer, judged by group applause.

Can you play this with drinks?

The game works just as well without any drinks. If your group does include alcohol, a simple rule is that anyone who cannot explain their answer within ten seconds drinks. Keep it light and never pressure anyone.

How do you print the cards?

Print each sheet on cardstock, cut along the thin lines, and you have six cards per sheet. Two sheets cover one full round of 12 questions. Laminate for repeat use or punch a hole in the corner and thread a binder ring to keep each round together.

Are these questions suitable for a work party?

Rounds One and Four (Absurd Everyday and Ridiculous Superpowers) work well in a work setting. Round Two and Three have mild gross-out and embarrassment themes that some colleagues may find too personal. Know your audience and skip rounds as needed.

What age are these questions for?

This set is written for adults and older teens. All content is PG-13: nothing explicit, no alcohol references in the questions themselves, and no scenarios requiring anything unsafe. For younger players, see the kids version linked below.
